Having a spare room in your home can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it’s great to have extra space that you can use for a variety of purposes. On the other hand, it can be overwhelming to decide what to do with that space. If you find yourself with a spare room and are not sure what to do with it, here are six ways you can use that space.

1. Home Office

With more people working from home, having a dedicated space to work has become increasingly important. If you have the space, consider turning it into a home office. You can set up a desk, office chair, and any other office equipment you need to make working from home more comfortable and efficient. You can also add some personal touches like artwork or photos to make the space feel more inviting. If you are struggling to set up a working space, read our post on setting up a productive home office space.

2. Guest Bedroom

If you frequently have guests staying over, designing a guest bedroom is a great idea. You can decorate the room with comfortable bedding, add some extra pillows, and make sure the room is stocked with all the essentials your guests will need during their stay. This is also a great opportunity to add some personal touches to the room to make your guests feel welcome. For inspiration, check out our bedroom inspiration guide.

3. Home Gym

If you’re someone who enjoys working out but doesn’t want to go to a gym, having a home gym might be the perfect solution. You can add some exercise equipment, like a treadmill or weight bench, and decorate the space with inspiring artwork and useful storage solutions. This will make it easier for you to stay in shape and enjoy your workouts in the comfort of your own home.

4. Playroom

If you have children or young friends and relatives, creating a playroom is a great way to carve out a space where they can have fun and be creative. You can add toys, books, and games, and even create a space for them to do crafts or art projects. This is a great way to keep them entertained and engaged, and also give them a space to call their own.

5. Media Room

If you’re a movie buff, audiophile or enjoy watching sports, turning your extra space into a media room might be the perfect solution. You can have comfortable seating, plenty of comforting and cosy accessories and a media centre for all of your entertainment devices to be in one place. This is a great way to enjoy your favourite films, games or listening to your favourite albums in the comfort of your own home, and also a great way to entertain guests.

6. Dressing Room

If you have a love for fashion or just want a dedicated space for getting ready in the morning, turning your spare room into a dressing room might be a great idea. You can add a wardrobe or dresser for storing your clothes, and add a vanity unit or full-length mirror for getting ready for the day or evening. This is a great way to keep your clothes organized and have a space to get ready that feels luxurious and indulgent. You can also add some personal touches like a cosy rug or statement lighting to make the space feel more inviting.
