How to design your home with pets in mind
TOP TIPS FROM OUR INTERIOR DESIGNERS
We can’t deny, having a small animal companion completely changes your life. Having someone (or something) by your side regardless is a great feeling, but many people worry that it may stop them from having their dream interior.
Many fear that light colours are off-limits. The common misconception is that like car colours, lighter shades and hues will show up dirt and hair more prominently. In our experience, we have found the opposite to be true. Darker colours such as black and navy blues tend to show more hair, while dirt can be seen more visibly too. Don’t let this put you off, however. With easy maintenance fabrics and leathers, choosing colours that work with your lifestyle will make short work of any dirt or hair left behind with minimal cleaning and upkeep.
The Frisco fabric is a woven polyester fabric. It is ideal for heavy domestic use and perfect for tight/non-removable covers. It is recommended for the practical household. Frisco comes with Aquaclean technology, forming a stain-resistant barrier over the fabric. We recommend cleaning Frisco with water only, as well as regular vacuuming.
Soft, durable, and pleasing to the eye, Velvet adds an inviting look to the furniture. The fabric will bring a glow and sense of sophistication and is your choice for a modern, yet classy atmosphere. Don’t be fooled by the opulent look, velvet fabrics are hard wearing and is a great option for families and pets. We recommend a regular vacuum, as well as spot treating when stains are created. To prevent further marking, use the BoConcept protector spray to seal the fabric.
Made with 100% premium quality New Zealand worsted wool, Wellington is a woven felt upholstery fabric that offers a modern take on the classic texture. With an ultra-soft, satin-like feel, it offers exceptional strength and durability with a Martindale rating of 100,000.
Salto is a corrected leather made from South American cowhides. Cowhides have a nice fullness and feel which ensures a soft leather. Salto leather has been sanded down, maintaining 25% of its natural grain, and corrected. The look is rustic offering an exclusive and inviting appearance with exquisite seating comfort, making it well-suited for large soft surfaces. Ideal if you want a uniform look and easy maintenance. Perfect for families with children or pets.
Estoril is a semi-aniline leather made from European or Brazilian cowhides. Estoril has undergone a slight correction of the grain leaving 90% of the natural grain intact and most hallmarks visible. The surface has only received a thin layer of colour, not enough to close the pits, meaning that moisture and heat are transferred into the leather. Estoril requires more maintenance than a corrected leather as it is more sensitive towards liquids, dirt etc. Estoril is high-quality leather with a soft seating comfort. Over the years Estoril will develop a beautiful patina. Ideal if you appreciate the beauty and characteristics of a natural leather but prefer less maintenance than an aniline leather, and a great option for those with pets but want to enjoy the luxurious feel of aniline leather.
Ceramic is a great option for your hard surfaces that you want to look and feel luxurious but want low maintenance and high durability. Perfect for those who may have stray or clumsy furry friends, and can withstand stains, drops and scratches from even the toughest tests.
Stronger than usual melamine finishes, BoConcept’s UV lacquer has five strong layers of lamination to protect against stains and scratches.
PROLONG THE LIFE OF YOUR DESIGN
Preparing against any future accidents is a great way to prevent them from happening. When it comes to upholstery, use fabric protection on your fabrics, as well as cleaning and vacuuming regularly. The same can be applied to leather furniture, Vacuum weekly to prevent dust and dirt build-up, and clean with BoConcept leather cleaner when necessary. To prolong the life of your leather, consider using BoConcept Leather Cream to soften and hydrate your leather products. We recommend this advice to all our clients, but with our clients with pets, we would strongly recommend following these steps to ensure they get the most out of their chosen designs.
