The festive season is just around the corner, and that means it's time to gather with loved ones, share delicious meals, and create lasting memories. One way to make those moments even more special is by setting a festive table that reflects the warmth and joy of the season. We want to celebrate the season in style, so we’ve asked our designers across our Scottish stores for their top tips on creating the signature Scandi style in your home.

Start With a Solid Foundation

Begin by choosing a tablecloth or runner that complements your overall theme. We suggest opting for classic and versatile colours like deep reds, greens, or neutrals. This foundation will serve as the canvas for the rest of your festive decor. Alternatively, if you have one of our ceramic top tables, let this surface be the foundation. This adds an organic feel to your tablespace and with our ceramics being heat and scratch-resistant, there’s no need to worry about excess damage.

Mix and Match Dinnerware

BoConcept encourages you to get creative with your dinnerware. Mix and match different plates, bowls, and glasses to add visual interest to your table. Consider incorporating metallic accents or organic feeling textures to elevate the look.

Layer Your Place Settings

Create depth and sophistication by layering your place settings. Start with a charger plate, followed by your dinner plate, and then add a smaller starter plate. Following on from our previous tip, mix and match your settings, adding complimentary dishes that vary in texture or colour.

Accessorise With Elegant Centrepieces

A stunning centrepiece is the focal point of any festive table. When dressing our tables in-store, we use seasonal flowers, candles, and decorative ornaments to create a visually appealing arrangement. Our go-to greenery is eucalyptus, fir, pine or spruce branches. Add a classic Scottish twist to your centrepiece and add elements of heather or thistles for a traditional flair.

Personalise with Place Cards

Make each guest feel special by incorporating personalised place cards. Add a formal feel to your occasion without the stuffiness by using modern twists on the standard place card. BoConcept designers suggest using an organic, natural element when designing this. Using natural materials like tags on twine or using a plant as a placeholder feels like a personal, thoughtful touch. If you have good penmanship, hand-writing your cards feel even more personal.

A Modern Take On Napkin Rings

It can be easy sometimes for festive tables to feel overly formal and traditional. By adding interesting touches to the details, it creates intrigue to your table while putting your guests at ease. Our stylists recommend using ribbon or string in place of napkin rings. This means you can choose a tie that suits your style, while creating a look that is more modern than the traditional napkin ring.

Opt For Ambient Lighting

Lighting plays a crucial role in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Our store team suggests using ambient lighting such as candles or string lights to add a touch of cosiness to your festive table. Explore our range of candles and holders in-store and online for some inspiration.

Don't Forget to Enjoy Yourself

Remember that a host at ease means that their guests are at ease! The holidays can be a stressful time, so remember to enjoy yourself and cherish the time you have with your loved ones.

With our interior designer style tips, you can transform your holiday table into a masterpiece that reflects your unique taste and the spirit of the season. By incorporating these thoughtful details, you'll create a warm and inviting atmosphere for your guests, ensuring that your festive gatherings are truly memorable.
